Mount farming priority routes
A practical order for FFXIV mount collectors: time-gated sources first, then old Extreme trial sets, then achievements and long grinds.

Priority order
The fastest way to grow a mount collection is not to farm whatever looks coolest first. Start with time-gated sources, then farm older Extreme trial sets while unsynced, then work on achievements, currencies, PvP, deep dungeons, and rare drops in the background.
- Weekly or daily-limited sources should be checked before open-ended farms.
- Old Extreme trial mounts are good early wins because many can be farmed quickly at high level.
- Achievement mounts are best handled as long-term projects while doing other content.
Do time-gated mounts first
Any source with a weekly lockout, seasonal window, roulette cadence, tribal reputation, custom delivery pacing, PvP series timing, or event deadline should come before repeatable old-trial farms. Missing a time gate delays the mount by real calendar time, while an old Extreme farm will still be there tomorrow.
- Check current events and seasonal campaigns before starting a farm night.
- If a mount requires reputation or tokens, do the daily/weekly step first, then spend leftover time elsewhere.
- Keep a short note of lockouts so you are not relying on memory.
Clean up ARR Extreme ponies
The ARR pony set is the cleanest early collection route. Local mount data lists Aithon from The Bowl of Embers (Extreme), Xanthos from The Howling Eye (Extreme), Gullfaxi from The Navel (Extreme), Enbarr from The Whorleater (Extreme), Markab from The Striking Tree (Extreme), and Boreas from The Akh Afah Amphitheatre (Extreme).
- Farm these unsynced at high level when possible.
- Keep one inventory slot open for whistles and token/reward cleanup.
- Once the set is complete, check the Kirin achievement path before moving on.
Move expansion by expansion
After ARR, continue by expansion instead of bouncing randomly across the duty list. Heavensward birds, Stormblood kamuy, Shadowbringers gwibers, Endwalker lynxes, and Dawntrail-era mounts are easier to track when handled as sets.
- Start with the oldest expansion set you can comfortably solo or duo unsynced.
- Use Party Finder for mounts that are still awkward, current, or mechanically punishing.
- Do not mix too many partial sets unless you are only joining opportunistic parties.
Use achievements as background goals
Achievement mounts can be satisfying but slow. Treat them as background tracks: tank achievement mounts while tanking roulettes, PvP mounts while doing seasonal PvP, collection achievements while already farming related content, and treasure/map goals while playing with friends.
- Do not grind a huge achievement from zero unless you enjoy the activity itself.
- Stack goals where possible: roulette progress, commendations, tank clears, and tomestones can overlap.
- Review achievement wording carefully before committing, because synced/unsynced or role restrictions may matter.
Track ownership and sanity
Use FFXIV Collect or your preferred tracker to avoid duplicate farming and to sort by source. The local wiki exposes ownership percentages from FFXIV Collect, which can help identify common quick wins versus rarer projects.
- Sort by source first, then by expansion, then by current effort.
- Stop a farm before burnout. Mount collecting is a marathon category.
- When a mount is tied to current Savage, Ultimate, or difficult Criterion content, bookmark it as aspirational unless you are actively doing that content.
