The Doman Enclave

settlementsStormblood

Overview

The Doman Enclave is a settlement and ongoing reconstruction project located along the banks of the One River in Yanxia, the heartland of the liberated Kingdom of Doma. Introduced in the post-patch content for the Stormblood expansion, the Enclave represents the physical and symbolic rebuilding of Doma's seat of power following decades of devastating Garlean occupation. Once the site of Castle Doma, the area was reduced to ruins after its deliberate destruction by Doman resistance forces to deny the stronghold to the Empire. What players encounter is not a finished town, but a dynamic work-in-progress—a community rising from the ashes through collective effort.

More than just a location, the Doman Enclave functions as a unique, long-term gameplay system where Warriors of Light can contribute gil through donations to fund the reconstruction. This system allows players to witness a tangible transformation over time, as cumulative contributions lead to cleared rubble, new buildings, returning citizens, and the gradual restoration of hope and prosperity. The Enclave stands as a testament to the resilience of the Doman people and the often-overlooked challenges of rebuilding after war.

History & Lore

The Shadow of Occupation

The history of the Doman Enclave is inextricably linked to the tragic fate of Castle Doma and the surrounding settlement. For generations, this area served as the cultural and political heart of the Kingdom of Doma, a vassal state under the Garlean Empire. Life under imperial rule was one of harsh subjugation, economic exploitation, and cultural suppression. The Domans endured these conditions for years until a resistance, led by the young lord Hien Rijin, began to coalesce.

Facing an overwhelming Garlean counter-offensive, Hien made a fateful and devastating decision. Rather than allow Castle Doma to fall intact into enemy hands, providing them an impregnable fortress in Yanxia, he ordered its destruction. The resulting collapse and subsequent Garlean reprisals left the area in utter ruin. The surviving population was scattered, displaced, or enslaved, and the heart of Doma was rendered a silent, broken monument to defiance and loss.

A Foundation of Hope

Following Doma's liberation in the main Stormblood storyline—a victory achieved through the combined efforts of the Eorzean Alliance, the Doman resistance, and the Warrior of Light—the monumental task of rebuilding began. Lord Hien, now restored to leadership, turned his attention to healing his nation's wounds. The reconstruction of the Enclave was conceived as the cornerstone of this effort, a project meant to inspire his people and provide a focal point for the return of Doman culture and sovereignty.

The project is overseen by Hien and his loyal retainers, with the practical logistics managed by the merchant Kozakura. The philosophy behind the rebuild is deliberate: it is not a rapid construction of a new city, but a careful, community-driven restoration. The goal is to reclaim their home, not erase the scars of the past. Every cleared stone and rebuilt wall is an act of reclamation, a statement that Doma's spirit was never broken.

The Reconstruction Effort

The narrative of the Enclave's rebirth is one of quiet perseverance. Unlike the epic battles of the liberation, this story is told through returning families, reopened shops, and the steady hum of labor. Displaced citizens trickle back as the environment becomes more hospitable, sharing stories of their time in refugee camps or under Garlean thumb. Their return is the true measure of the project's success.

Hien's leadership during this phase highlights his growth from a rebel leader to a wise ruler. He balances the pragmatic need for infrastructure and security with deep compassion for his people's trauma. The Enclave becomes a living symbol of his promise: a free Doma where its people can determine their own future. The reconstruction also serves to strengthen Doma's bonds with Eorzea, as contributions from adventurers are acknowledged as vital acts of international solidarity.

Gameplay

The Doman Enclave is accessed via a standalone aetheryte in Yanxia (X:29.3, Y:7.2). Its primary gameplay function is the Doman Enclave Reconstruction system, a unique, donation-based progression mechanic.

Donation System

Players interact with the merchant Kozakura, who is collecting funds for the rebuild. The system allows players to sell unwanted items (gear, crafting materials, dungeon drops, etc.) to her at a 200% return compared to selling to other vendors. However, this is subject to a weekly limit on total gil value that can be donated, which increases as the reconstruction advances through its tiers.

The proceeds from these sales are counted as a player's weekly donation. Kozakura provides a summary of the player's personal contribution and progress toward the next reconstruction goal.

Visual & Functional Progression

As a player's cumulative donations reach specific thresholds, the Enclave undergoes dramatic visual changes. The progression is divided into multiple stages:

  1. Initial Ruins: The area is littered with debris, with only a few tents and determined workers present.
  2. Clearing & Foundation: Rubble is cleared, foundations are laid, and temporary structures become more organized.
  3. Rebuilding: Permanent buildings—including homes, a market, a tavern, and a dojo—are constructed and populated.
  4. Flourishing: The town becomes vibrant and lush. Gardens bloom, decorations are added, the population swells, and new amenities (like additional vendors) become available.

Each stage is marked by new NPCs arriving with unique dialogue, environmental storytelling, and a growing sense of community. The final, fully restored Enclave is a bustling, beautiful small town with all standard hub amenities: an aetheryte, vendors, a marketboard, and an inn room.

Rewards

Participating in the reconstruction is its own reward, as witnessing the transformation is a powerful narrative experience. However, players also receive tangible rewards for each major tier completed, including:

  • Gil Rewards: A substantial sum of gil is mailed to the player after each tier's completion.
  • Doman Enclave Reconstruction Boxes: These contain a variety of valuable items, such as rare crafting materials, furnishings, and glamour items.
  • Title: Upon fully completing the reconstruction, players earn the title ">!Of the Rising Sun!<".

The system is designed as a long-term, casual activity, encouraging players to visit weekly over several months to see the incremental changes and ultimately unlock the permanent, restored state of the Enclave.

Trivia

  • The Doman Enclave reconstruction system is often praised by the community as one of the most satisfying examples of player-driven world-building in FFXIV.
  • The music that plays in the Enclave, ">!Doman Harmonics!<," is a peaceful rearrangement of the Yanxia day theme, reflecting the area's shift from a war-torn region to a place of peace.
  • Unlike the Ishgardian Restoration in Shadowbringers, which focuses on crafting and gathering, the Doman Enclave rebuild is accessible to all players regardless of job, requiring only unwanted items to sell.
  • The fully rebuilt Enclave features several subtle callbacks to characters and events from the Doman storyline, including memorials and named NPCs from earlier quests.
  • The reconstruction caps at a certain point, after which players can continue to sell items to Kozakura at the increased rate each week, providing a steady, minor gil sink and income source.
