Overview
Cahciua is a Rava Viera character introduced in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. A skilled archer and naturalist, she was once a companion of Gulool Ja Ja and played a role in uniting the peoples of Tural and founding the nation of Tuliyollal. She is the mother of Erenville, and her story becomes central to the events surrounding the dome-sealed region of Yyasulani and the Alexandrian city of Solution Nine, where she exists as one of the digital dead known as the Endless.
History & Lore
Early Life and Exploration
From an early age, Cahciua was driven by an insatiable curiosity about the world around her. She developed considerable skill in archery alongside a deep knowledge of the natural world, talents that made her well-suited to life as an explorer. Her restless spirit and competence drew her into the company of Gulool Ja Ja, and she became one of his trusted traveling companions.
Roughly eighty years before the events of Dawntrail, Cahciua and her fellow companions undertook the monumental task of uniting Tural's many disparate peoples. Their efforts culminated in the defeat of the fearsome Valigarmanda and the founding of the nation of Tuliyollal, cementing Cahciua's place in the history of the continent.
Motherhood and Parting
Cahciua raised a son she named Elene'shpya, known to the wider world as Erenville. She passed on to him everything she knew of the wilderness and the ways of exploration, and when she felt he was ready, she urged him to seek out his own path — including the fabled golden city. Though Erenville searched, he never found it, and eventually sailed to Old Sharlayan to build a life as a gleaner.
Despite the distance that grew between them, Cahciua never viewed her son as a failure. Her repeated departures, however, left a lasting mark on Erenville, who harbored quiet resentment over being left behind time and again throughout his childhood. The tension between her wandering nature and her love for him would remain unresolved for many years.
Fate in Yyasulani
Cahciua was living in Yyasulani when the Kingdom of Alexandria, through its technology of interdimensional fusion, merged its fragment of the Ninth reflection directly with the region, encasing it within a sealed dome. Over the three decades that followed, Cahciua died within the dome and was converted into one of the Endless — digital recreations of the deceased whose memories were preserved within Living Memory's Aero Terminal.
Unwilling to accept the passive existence that Living Memory offered, Cahciua found a way to remotely pilot an Outrunner robot, allowing her to move through the outside world of Solution Nine. It was through this drone that she encountered two brawling bar patrons, Geode and Shale, with whom she found an unexpected kinship. Together, the three discovered the abandoned headquarters of a defunct organization called Oblivion and, drawing on its old records, refounded it with a renewed purpose: to oppose both the scientific collective known as Preservation and the ambitions of Zoraal Ja, the King of Resolve.
Reunion and Resolution
When the Warrior of Light, Wuk Lamat, and Erenville entered the dome and began navigating the dangers of Alexandria, they were eventually directed to a resistance hideout where they encountered a machine body under remote control — Cahciua, communicating through her drone. She declined to reveal her true location, insisting only that she was safe, and used her knowledge of Alexandria to help the group understand the nature of soul cells and the threat posed by Zoraal Ja.
After Zoraal Ja's defeat and the subsequent sealing of Living Memory's gateway by Queen Sphene, Erenville ultimately found his way to his mother's true form within Living Memory. There, Cahciua expressed her boundless pride in everything her son had become, and affirmed that he remained her greatest joy. The reunion allowed Erenville to finally make peace with the complicated feelings he had carried for so long, and the two reconciled.
Personality
Cahciua describes herself as "insufferably inquisitive," and the label fits. She is constitutionally incapable of remaining still when there is something unknown left to discover — whether a legendary creature, a forgotten ruin, or an unexplored stretch of wilderness. Even after death, this drive persisted; rather than accept the static existence of the Endless, she sought out a way to continue experiencing the world through a remote-controlled drone, an act that Wuk Lamat would come to regard as a mark of true rebellion.
Beneath her restless exterior, Cahciua is a deeply loving mother. When reunited with Erenville in her drone form, she was openly emotional, showering him with affection and even producing the embarrassing childhood nickname she had given him. Her warmth, however, existed alongside a pattern of choices made unilaterally and without consultation — a habit that had long strained her relationship with her son. Her capacity for leadership was equally evident, having served as one of Gulool Ja Ja's companions during Tural's founding and later stepping into an organizing role within the reborn Oblivion.
Relationships
Cahciua's most significant relationship is with her son Erenville. Though her love for him is unambiguous, her lifelong pattern of leaving him behind — even when he pleaded as a child to accompany her — created a rift that persisted into adulthood. Erenville came to associate his mother with decisions made without him, and her encouragement to seek the golden city felt, in retrospect, more like another departure than a gift. Their reconciliation within Living Memory, where Cahciua made clear that he was her proudest achievement, marked a turning point for both of them.
Her bond with Geode and Shale, forged over a chance encounter in a Solution Nine bar, speaks to another side of her character — an ability to find connection quickly and build something meaningful from it. The three became the core of the revived Oblivion, united by shared opposition to forces they saw as threatening the people of Alexandria.
