Overview

Erenville is a male Rava Viera character appearing in Final Fantasy XIV, hailing from the western continent of Tural. Born under the name Elene'shpya, he later adopted the name Erenville upon relocating to Sharlayan, where he built a reputation as a skilled gleaner specializing in the collection of live specimens. Affiliated with The Gleaners' Guildship and the son of Cahciua, a companion of the legendary unifier of Tural, Erenville plays a notable role across the Endwalker expansion and beyond.

History & Lore

Origins and Early Life

Erenville was born Elene'shpya in Tesh'pyani Village, located in the region of Yyasulani on the western continent of Tural. His mother, Cahciua, was one of the traveling companions of Gulool Ja Ja, the figure who united Tural roughly eighty years before the events of the game. This connection between their parents meant that Elene'shpya grew up alongside Wuk Lamat, the Third Promise of Tuliyollal and daughter of Gulool Ja Ja, making the two childhood friends.

Their first meeting carried a small note of confusion: because Viera children tend to appear androgynous before puberty, Wuk Lamat initially believed Elene'shpya to be a girl. Despite this early misunderstanding, the two forged a lasting bond during their youth in Tural.

Journey to Sharlayan

Acting on his mother's recommendation, Elene'shpya eventually left Tural and traveled to Sharlayan. Upon settling into life abroad, he adopted a new name in keeping with eastern Viera city naming conventions, becoming known simply as Erenville. He established himself as a gleaner of considerable skill, focusing on the gathering of live specimens rather than artifacts or written knowledge.

His expertise and scholarly depth far exceeded what might be expected of someone his age, earning him a reputation that reached the highest levels of Sharlayan's governing body. The Forum itself came to request his services as part of their secretive plan to preserve life in the face of the Final Days, a testament to how highly his abilities were regarded.

Role During the Final Days

Erenville first crossed paths with the Warrior of Light and the Scions of the Seventh Dawn in Labyrinthos, where they were investigating the Forum's refusal to assist with the crisis engulfing the world. Through Erenville, the group learned that the Forum had been dispatching gleaners across the globe to collect samples, living creatures, and knowledge, though even Erenville himself had not been told the full purpose behind these efforts.

When Y'shtola transformed the Warrior, Alphinaud, and Alisaie into toads to allow them to shadow Erenville discreetly, his expertise quickly gave them away. He saw through the disguise immediately and confronted them after the Forum member he had been meeting departed. As the Final Days intensified, Erenville witnessed firsthand the horror of the affliction spreading across the star, observing a struggling individual in Ishgard consumed by a dark, smoke-like corruption before transforming into a beast. Later, after the Scions secured Forum cooperation for the Ragnarok project, Erenville helped bring Sharlayan's gleaner network into the effort, ultimately revealing his involvement to the Forum and framing it not as betrayal but as a commitment to the star's survival.

After the Final Days

When the Scions returned victorious from Ultima Thule, Erenville was among the first to witness the Ragnarok's return. In the aftermath, he was found exchanging news with Krile when the Warrior of Light arrived seeking access to the aether geysers on the island of Haam. Erenville soon departed on an expedition of his own, and when he returned, he brought with him a companion who wished to meet the Warrior: his childhood friend Wuk Lamat, who had traveled from Tural. Erenville arranged the introduction through Krile, helping to set in motion the events that would draw the Warrior into Tural's affairs.

Personality

Erenville carries himself with a directness that can read as blunt, though he is not unkind. He treats most people with basic courtesy but does not shy away from speaking plainly when he feels it is warranted, whether pushing back against the Forum's treatment of his fellow gleaners or cutting through vague deflections from those who approach him without stating their true intentions.

His passion for the natural world is evident in the depth of his knowledge. He can identify subtle distinctions between species and specimens that others would overlook entirely, a quality that proved useful when he immediately recognized that the so-called toads observing him were in fact transformed humans. This attentiveness to the living world around him is central to both his profession and his character.

Relationships

Erenville's relationship with his mother Cahciua is foundational to his story, as her guidance directed him toward Sharlayan and shaped the path his life would take. His bond with Wuk Lamat, rooted in their shared childhood in Tural, endures into adulthood and ultimately serves as the bridge connecting the Warrior of Light to the events unfolding on the western continent.

Among the Scions, Erenville develops a particular rapport with Krile, and the two are shown exchanging conversation and working in coordination during the later stages of the Endwalker narrative. His relationship with the Forum is more complicated, defined by professional obligation and a willingness to act independently when he believes the greater good demands it.

Behind the Scenes

In the English localization, Erenville is voiced by Ari Óskarsson, while Rikuya Yasuda provides his voice in the Japanese version. His English performance features an Icelandic accent, consistent with how eastern hemisphere Viera are portrayed in the game. This stands in contrast to Viera characters from Tural, including his own mother, who speak with American accents. The short story The First of Many Festivals suggests that Elene'shpya spoke with a Yyasulani accent as a child, implying that Erenville may have consciously adopted the Icelandic accent to better assimilate into his new life overseas, much as he took on a new name.

Setting aside the option for players to create a male Viera Warrior of Light at character creation, Erenville holds the distinction of being the first male Viera to appear in the Final Fantasy series as a named character, though depending on the order in which players progress through the game's content, other male Viera such as Loifa or those featured in limited-time events may be encountered first.
