F'lhaminn Qesh

Also known as: F'lhaminn

scionsA Realm Reborn

Overview

F'lhaminn Qesh is a Miqo'te Keeper of the Moon and a member of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn in Final Fantasy XIV. Known in Ul'dah as the Songstress, she carries a history marked by grief, guilt, and enduring love. She is perhaps best recognized as the adoptive mother of Minfilia Warde, a bond that shapes much of her journey across the game's expansions. At 37 years old, F'lhaminn balances a warm, nurturing presence with a resilience forged through personal tragedy and years of wandering.

History & Lore

Origins and the Events of Version 1.0

F'lhaminn first rose to prominence in Ul'dah as a celebrated performer, earning the title Songstress of the city-state. Alongside her lover Niellefresne, whom she affectionately called Nielle, she became entangled in a dangerous political scheme. The two released a beast during a public parade, intending to swiftly subdue it and gain influence through the act of heroism. The plan went catastrophically wrong when the creature killed Warburton, the father of a young girl named Ascilia.

Consumed by guilt after learning of Warburton's death from Thancred, F'lhaminn resolved to take Ascilia into her care. Before she could act, however, a man named Corguevais seized the child and fled toward Black Brush, intending to return her to Ala Mhigo. F'lhaminn arrived too late to prevent this and was forced to confess her role in the tragedy directly to Ascilia, who responded with open hatred. When Corguevais summoned a swarm of coblyns and abandoned the girl, F'lhaminn threw herself in front of the creatures to protect Ascilia, sustaining serious injuries that left her unconscious. She was transported to Frondale's Phrontistery to recover, and upon waking directed the group to seek out Thancred regarding an approaching threat.

Loss and the Weight of Grief

Even as she recovered, F'lhaminn overheard that Niellefresne intended to attempt a resurrection of Warburton. Despite her wounds, she rushed out to find and stop him, though Thancred took up the search on her behalf. When she discovered that Nielle had died, the grief proved too overwhelming to fully accept. For a time, she convinced herself he was merely sleeping, a coping mechanism she maintained until the act of raising Ascilia as her own daughter finally allowed her to confront the truth of his death.

The Goldsmith questline in version 1.0 explored this period in greater depth, weaving together F'lhaminn's struggle to accept her loss with the story of Colbernoux, Niellefresne's brother, who harbored feelings for both her and his late sibling. The questline painted a portrait of a woman caught between mourning and the slow, difficult work of moving forward.

Survival and Return in A Realm Reborn

Following the Calamity, F'lhaminn was widely presumed dead, as no trace of her body was ever recovered. In truth she had survived and spent years wandering the land. The Warrior of Light eventually encountered her and came to her aid against a rampaging Goobbue. Grateful, she agreed to advocate for relocating the Scions of the Seventh Dawn to Mor Dhona, provided the Warrior of Light first helped her obtain the final ingredient for a perfume she had been crafting. Once the perfume was complete, she returned to the Waking Sands to reunite with Minfilia and ultimately persuaded her adopted daughter to make the move to Mor Dhona. F'lhaminn settled into the Scions' new headquarters, the Rising Stones, where she took on the role of cook, preparing Ul'dahn dishes for her companions.

Her time at the Rising Stones was cut short when hostile forces from the Crystal Braves and Brass Blades closed in. F'lhaminn managed to warn Tataru Taru in time for her to flee, while she herself escaped to Thavnair under the protection of Hoary Boulder's brother.

Heavensward and a Painful Reunion

After a rebel faction's assault on the Vault in Ishgard, word reached Tataru that F'lhaminn, Hoary Boulder, and Coultenet were returning to Eorzea. The reunion carried an undercurrent of sorrow, as the Warrior of Light had to inform F'lhaminn that Minfilia remained missing. Though visibly distressed by the news, F'lhaminn composed herself and placed her trust in the Scions, rejoining the group at the Rising Stones. In a quiet, bittersweet moment, after Minfilia sacrificed herself to halt the Flood of Light in the First, F'lhaminn heard her daughter's voice one final time, whispering words of gratitude.

Closure and New Bonds in Later Expansions

During the Stormblood era, F'lhaminn became involved in an investigation surrounding an enchanted blade called Heartstrike. She granted Severian and the Warrior of Light permission to examine Niellefresne's body, which the blade's curse had preserved from decay. After saying her final farewell to him, the Heartstrike was destroyed, releasing Nielle's body back to the aether and bringing a long chapter of her life to a close. She also gifted matching hats to the four young members of the Doman Adventurers' Guild before their departure, having come to regard them as her own children.

In Shadowbringers, the Dancer questline revealed that during her time in Thavnair, F'lhaminn had befriended a woman named Nashmeira, whom she called Meira, and helped her plan Troupe Falsiam's tour of Eorzea. When the tour concluded and she learned of Minfilia's final passing, F'lhaminn asked the Warrior of Light to accompany her to the Church of Saint Adama Landama, where Minfilia's father lay buried. Together they interred a gemstone of personal significance to Minfilia and said their goodbyes, bringing her grief to a quiet, dignified end.

Personality and Relationships

F'lhaminn is defined above all by her capacity for love and her willingness to bear the consequences of her mistakes. Her decision to shield Ascilia from the coblyns, despite the girl's hatred toward her, speaks to a selflessness that runs deeper than guilt. As Minfilia's adoptive mother, she provided stability and warmth, and her grief at Minfilia's disappearance and eventual death is among the most emotionally resonant threads in her story.

Her friendships extend broadly across the cast. She maintains a close bond with Tataru, whose safety she prioritized during the attack on the Rising Stones, and her affection for the young members of the Doman guild reflects a maternal instinct that reaches beyond blood or formal adoption. Her friendship with Nashmeira in Thavnair further illustrates her ability to form deep connections even during periods of displacement and loss.
