Overview
Loghrif is a character in Final Fantasy XIV, a Hyur Highlander woman who held the seat of Loghrif the Pastor on the Convocation of Fourteen in the ancient, unsundered world. Her true name is Gaia. Deeply bonded with her fellow Convocation member Mitron, she survived the catastrophic Final Days and was later sundered alongside all of Etheirys. Her story spans both the distant past and the present age of the First, where her soul's journey ultimately shapes one of that shard's most enigmatic figures.
History & Lore
Origins and Role on the Convocation
In the unsundered world, the ancient known as Gaia occupied the Convocation seat titled Loghrif the Pastor, a position devoted to the stewardship of terrestrial life and animal husbandry. This role stood in deliberate contrast to that of her closest companion, Mitron the Mariner, whose expertise lay in aquatic life. Together, the two were regarded as inseparable, and Mitron was said to have been deeply, hopelessly devoted to Loghrif.
When the catastrophe known as the Final Days threatened to consume Etheirys, the Convocation resolved to summon the primal Zodiark as a desperate measure. Loghrif was designated to serve as Zodiark's heart, a role requiring her sacrifice. Mitron, unwilling to lose her, intervened and persuaded the Convocation to assign that burden elsewhere. The duty ultimately fell to Elidibus the Emissary, sparing Loghrif's life.
The Sundering and Return as an Ascian
Loghrif survived the Final Days and remained aligned with the Convocation as ancient society fractured into opposing factions. When the Sundering occurred and Etheirys was split into fourteen reflections, Loghrif was divided along with the rest of the world, her soul scattered across the shards.
One fragment of her soul was later discovered by the unsundered Ascians, who restored her memories and raised her back into her seat on the Convocation. Reunited with Mitron, the two were dispatched together to the shard known as the First, tasked with monitoring and ultimately manipulating the balance of Light and Darkness there. The broader goal was to engineer an Umbral Calamity that would allow the First to be absorbed back into the Source.
Conflict on the First and Death
Acting under orders from Emet-Selch, Loghrif and Mitron worked to tip the First's elemental balance toward catastrophe. Their efforts were ultimately cut short when the Warriors of Light native to the First confronted and defeated them both. Loghrif was slain in the battle.
The consequences of their defeat proved far-reaching. Mitron, struck by the intense desire of the Warriors' leader Ardbert Hylfyst to drive back the Darkness, was unintentionally transformed into Eden, the first sin eater. In this altered state, Eden released the Light contained within itself, triggering a Flood of Light that threatened to consume the First entirely.
Reincarnation as Gaia
Though Loghrif perished, her soul did not depart the First. It lingered and, in time, reincarnated within the shard as a young girl of Eulmore. The influence of the transformed Mitron, now Eden, caused this girl to lose her memories entirely. Without a name to call her own, she came to adopt the one that was whispered to her from some deep, unremembered place: Gaia, her true name from a life long past.
Personality
Loghrif was known among those close to her for a tendency toward forgetfulness, something Mitron would affectionately tease her about. Despite this, she was a figure of warmth and genuine feeling, and her bond with Mitron was one of sincere love.
The tragedy of the Sundering meant that the shard of Loghrif who returned as an Ascian carried no memory of the life she and Mitron had shared. Rather than mourning what was lost, she looked forward, expressing a quiet hope that the two of them might build new memories together in the time they had.
Relationships
The defining relationship of Loghrif's existence was her bond with Mitron. The two were considered a pair in virtually every sense, their Convocation roles complementary and their personal connection profound. Mitron's devotion to Loghrif was strong enough to alter the course of history, as his refusal to allow her sacrifice changed who would serve as Zodiark's heart and, by extension, shaped the fate of Elidibus.
Their reunion after the Sundering carried a bittersweet quality. Loghrif, her memories of their shared past erased, could not fully reciprocate the depth of feeling Mitron carried across ages. Yet she did not turn away from him, instead choosing to face their circumstances together and hope for something new.
Name and Title
Like all members of the Convocation of Fourteen, Loghrif is a title rather than a personal name. The position of Loghrif the Pastor defined her public identity within ancient society, while her true given name, Gaia, remained the name of the person beneath the role. This distinction becomes especially significant in the context of her reincarnation, where the name Gaia resurfaces as the only thread connecting a girl with no memories to a woman who shaped the fate of worlds.
