Overview
Outer La Noscea is the northernmost and most geologically volatile region of La Noscea on the island of Vylbrand. Defined by the imposing slopes and foothills of the great volcano O'Ghomoro, the zone is a landscape of stark, primal power. Jagged rock formations, steaming fumaroles, and rivers of molten lava paint a picture of a land still in the violent throes of creation. This harsh environment serves as the ancestral homeland of the Kobold beastmen, whose deep mining operations and fervent worship of the earth primal Titan have made Outer La Noscea a focal point of conflict and a critical proving ground for adventurers in the latter stages of A Realm Reborn.
The zone stands as a testament to the consequences of territorial expansion. The presence of Limsa Lominsa's thalassocracy and its settlers on Vylbrand has placed immense pressure on the Kobolds, driving them to desperate measures to defend their sacred mountain. As such, Outer La Noscea is not merely a wilderness but a contested borderland where the ambitions of civilization clash directly with the ancient rites and survival of a beast tribe.
History & Lore
The Domain of O'Ghomoro
The history of Outer La Noscea is inextricably linked to O'Ghomoro, the slumbering volcano that dominates its geography. For generations beyond count, the mountain has been the heart of Kobold society. They revere it not just as a home, but as a living deity of stone and fire, a belief that would later crystallize into the worship of the primal Titan. The Kobolds have tunneled deep into O'Ghomoro's roots, establishing vast subterranean complexes like the U'Ghamaro Mines. Their existence is one of extraction and industry, centered on mining the rare minerals and earth-aspected crystals abundant in the volcanic soil.
A Clash of Claims
The founding of Limsa Lominsa and the subsequent expansion of its influence across La Noscea created an irreconcilable conflict. To the Lominsans, the mineral-rich slopes of O'Ghomoro represented untapped wealth and territory. To the Kobolds, every new settlement and quarry was an act of sacrilegious encroachment on their holy land. This tension simmered for years, erupting into open skirmishes and fueling a cycle of resentment. The Kobolds, pushed to the brink, increasingly turned to their faith, channeling their collective fear and anger into the ritual summoning of Titan to smite their invaders and reclaim their territory.
The Seat of the Lord of Crags
The spiritual and physical apex of this conflict is the Navel, a cavernous chamber deep within O'Ghomoro where the Kobolds perform their grand summoning rites. It is here that Titan, the Lord of Crags, is manifested into the physical world. His emergence causes catastrophic geological upheaval, threatening to destabilize the entire region and sink the island of Vylbrand itself. Outer La Noscea, therefore, became the strategic frontline for the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and the Maelstrom of Limsa Lominsa in their campaign to halt the primal threat. Camp Overlook was established as a forward operating base to coordinate incursions into Kobold territory and ultimately launch assaults on the U'Ghamaro Mines and the Navel itself.
The 789th Order
Amidst the conflict, a faction of Kobolds known as the 789th Order emerged. Representing a more pragmatic and moderate voice within their society, these Kobolds question the sustainability and cost of endless primal summoning. Through their representatives in Outer La Noscea, they cautiously seek dialogue and assistance from adventurers, offering alternative tasks that benefit their people without directly fueling the cycle of violence. Their daily quests provide a rare glimpse into the complexities of Kobold culture, revealing a people struggling to preserve their way of life in the face of existential threat.
